My studies began in Aachen with physics and philosophy. They continued in Göttingen and Magdeburg and were rounded out by graduate study in mathematical biology in Salt Lake City (USA).
This interdisciplinary training led me through a range of fields and research institutions. Among others, I worked at the Max Planck Institute for Nutritional Physiology in Dortmund; as a Visiting Research Scholar in biomedical engineering at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Brazil); at the Department of Psychology of the University of Stirling (UK); at the Department of Neurology and the Center for Learning and Memory Research in Magdeburg; and at the Mathematical Biosciences Institute of the Ohio State University in Columbus (USA).
I also spent several years as a visiting lecturer on dynamical diseases at the Technische Universität Berlin and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Most recently I conducted research at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems.
Migraine Aura Foundation
In 2003, together with Dr Klaus Podoll, I founded the Migraine Aura Foundation. It produces medical information and materials that help people with migraine recognise and understand their neurological symptoms and take more responsibility for their health.
Newsenselab & M-sense
In early 2016, with Stefan Greiner, Simon Scholler and Martin Lysk, I founded the Berlin startup Newsenselab. We developed a digital therapy for migraine and headache that was approved in December 2020 as the DiGA M-sense Migräne — a „prescribable app". My takeaway: eight great years and a lot of experience gained.
